Eutrophication is a leading cause of impairment of many freshwaters and coastal marine ecosystems in the world. They result in the formation of dense blooms of noxious, foul-smelling phytoplankton that reduce water clarity and harm water quality. Some algal blooms can be particularly harmful as they can release toxins like microcystin and anatoxin-a that have the potential to destroy the marine ecosystem. Moreover, Harmful algal blooms (HABs) have been linked with (1) degradation of water quality, (2) destruction of economically important fisheries, and (3) public health risks.
Our origins come from the New York Academy of Sciences. This was a challenge that we took upon ourselves to solve as a part of the academy. But over time we understood the significance of this problem and now we are motivated to find ways to solve Eutrophication completely. Our team is motivated to solve Eutrophication as it is very harmful to the Aquatic Ecosystem. The main goal of our team is to achieve complete Restoration of Aquatic Ecosystems. But through surveys and research, we found out that the majority of people have no knowledge of Eutrophication. So that's the reason we decided to create a website wherein we can raise awareness and explain to people how they are impacting eutrophication and present them with ways to solve the problem of Eutrophication.
